Osama Bin Laden’s family arrives in JeddahBy JEDDAH: ARAB NEWS Published: Apr 29, 2012 02:16 Updated: Apr 29, 2012 02:16 The family of Osama Bin Laden arrived in Jeddah on Thursday and was received at the airport by some members of the family, an official source said yesterday. “The Kingdom dealt with this matter on humanitarian grounds and after understanding that there is no evidence on their involvement in any crimes or illegal activities,” the source said. “It is not sound to dwell into details affecting the privacy of the Binladen family,” the source said, adding that the family’s travel was facilitated on the request of Binladens in the Kingdom. According to one report, the family that arrived from Pakistan included three widows and 11 children, who were detained by Pakistani security forces after the May 2, 2011 raid. The Pakistani Ministry of the Interior issued a statement saying it had "passed orders for the deportation of 14 members of Binladen family in pursuance of the court orders." Countdown starts for 33rd Jeddah summer festivalBy JEDDAH: FOUZIA KHAN Published: Apr 29, 2012 02:16 Updated: Apr 29, 2012 02:16 For the first time an electronic clock counting down the minutes to the opening of the 33rd Jeddah summer festival will feature on the festival’s website starting from June 6. The countdown will start 44 days before the launch of the festival, which is expected to start from July 17 for 35 days, attracting around 2 million visitors from around the Kingdom and abroad and will generate an income of over SR5 billion. The summer event will feature more than 200 activities include cultural, social, sports and entertainment events to enhance domestic and international tourism. Ahmed Sayed Al-Ghamdi, the president of summer festival media center, said this countdown would remind organizers to intensify preparations. All contracts with co-sponsors before the launch of the festival have been finalized. He added the summer festival has a prominent place in the agenda of tourism festivals in the region under the supervision of Prince Mishal bin Majed, governor of Jeddah and chairman of the Tourist Development Council. His aim is to maintain both large and small related events and overcome all obstacles in order to achieve the overall goals of the festival. The festival was launched 14 years ago and is known for its varied entertainment, recreation and shopping attractions. It takes place under the patronage of Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal.
